Turn a Brain Dump into tasks

Speak or type a rough list, review the suggestions, and choose what becomes a task.

Orbit is in private preview. Apply to test Orbit

Brain Dump gives a rough thought somewhere to land before you decide how to organise it. Choose Brain Dump from the list toolbar; on Mac it is also available in More.

Speak or type

  1. Choose Start Dictation and allow microphone access if you want to speak.
  2. Say what is on your mind, then choose Stop and Organise.
  3. Alternatively, type or paste into the transcript and choose Organise Typed Text.
  4. Review the suggested tasks. Edit or remove anything that is wrong.
  5. Choose Confirm to create the reviewed tasks.

Dates, times and tags are interpreted when you confirm. Review those details in the resulting tasks just as you would after ordinary plain-language capture. The confirmed group is one undoable action.

Without AI organisation

Choose Use Transcript Without AI to review the text without a model rewriting it. Separate lines become separate suggestions; a single paragraph stays one suggestion. You can edit the suggestions before confirming.

Privacy and availability

Dictation and organisation run on your device. Microphone access is needed only for recording; typed capture remains available without it. AI organisation depends on the on-device model being available. It is separate from connecting Orbit to an external AI client.

If dictation stops or organisation cannot finish, the transcript remains editable. Use the text already captured, try again, or choose the option without AI. If on-device speech assets are unavailable, check the language and device setup, then use typed text while resolving the issue.

Orbit’s plain-language capture What Orbit understands when you type (dates, times, tags, repeats, reminders and bucket shortcuts) and how to stop it reading something you meant literally. Getting started with Orbit Set Orbit up in a few minutes: capture your first task, learn the four time buckets, and know where everything lives.
