Echo

Your monthly Review

Review tells the story of a month or a year from what you wrote: photos, counts, how it felt, where you were and the days that stood out. How to open it, what Apple Intelligence adds, and how saving and sharing work.

Review tells the story of a month, or a whole year, from everything you wrote in it. Every line that mentions an entry leads back to that entry.

Open a Review

  • From All Entries: choose Review beside a month’s heading.
  • At the start of a month: for the first week, last month’s Review waits at the top of All Entries. Put it away with ×, or turn it off under Settings ▸ Reminders ▸ Month in Review.
  • From Mood: choose Review on the summary card for a month or a year.

On iPhone, Review opens as its own page. On iPad and Mac it takes the entry column, in two columns when there is room. A month with no entries has nothing to review yet.

What is on the page

  • Photos and counts. Pictures from the month, and how much you wrote.
  • In Your Own Words. Sentences from your entries that say the most, chosen on your device.
  • How It Felt. Your moods across the month.
  • Where You Were. The places you wrote from, with new ones marked.
  • Days That Stood Out. Your most active day, the warmest day you wrote, and your most photographed day.
  • Words That Kept Coming Back. The words you used most.

A year’s Review adds Months, so you can open each month’s own page.

With Apple Intelligence

On a device with Apple Intelligence, Echo also writes the story of the month, marked Written by Apple Intelligence. It reads only your entries, and every line it writes names the entries it came from; a line that cannot be traced back to an entry is left out. It also picks out What Kept Coming Back, and a question for the month ahead under the next month’s name (For November, say). Choose Write About It to start a new entry with that question.

The written story needs at least two entries and about forty words to work from.

Everything is worked out on your device. Without Apple Intelligence, the rest of the page is just the same.

Locked entries

Locked entries are counted, but never read. Their words, places and photos are left out of every part of Review, including the written story.

Saved Reviews

Once a month or year is over, its Review is saved, so it reads the same when you come back to it next year. Saved Reviews sync through iCloud, so a story written on a device with Apple Intelligence also shows on your other devices. To write it again, open Review Options (⋯) and choose Refresh.

Share

Share makes a picture of the top of the page: the photos, the month’s name and counts, and how it felt. None of your words are ever in it.
